EX by Design – the launch. Week notes w/c March 1st

We made it. EX by Design - How to create an effective EX for competitive advantage is out there in the world.

To mark its arrival we kicked back and had a launch party this week. One hundred people came along. I’m still coming to terms with that big number. If you were there, thank you. If you weren’t, you can check out the podcast here.

When Emma Bridger and I set out on this book-writing journey our aim was two fold:

  1. To bridge the gap in the existing literature: from what EX is and why it matters TO what to do about it.

  2. To democratise EX - a great experience at work shouldn’t be the sole domain of folks privileged to have a home office or the ability to escape the home for a plush, well-catered collaborative office space. A great EX shouldn’t just be for knowledge workers.

The book, we hope, starts to deliver on that promise. Emma’s background in positive psychology, plus her 10 years’ research into what makes a great experience at work, provide some pretty strong foundations to explore what experience means for people and how to make it better. And we also pack in a large number of really practical and accessible tools that can be used by everyone from experienced EX teams, to individual change makers sitting in HR, culture, internal comms, L&D or management.

The feedback from our reviewers and early readers has been fantastic. We’re so pleased we seem to be hitting the spot.

“For many people work is a cause of stress and anxiety – this book is here to solve that. Using the latest research and evidence – while being fantastically readable – the book gives a positive, people first approach to making work better!”
Bruce Daisley, author of The Joy of Work
“This is a must-read book for anyone working in the field of employee experience. It offers simple, practical tools and advice to help you make a positive difference to your employee experience. Bringing together the latest research and thinking from positive psychology and human-centred design, Emma and Belinda demystify EX and provide everything you need to start making a difference today.“
Mark Levy, EX adviser and pioneer of employee experience at Airbnb

We’d love to know what you think. This is a learning journey for us which is why we’re so keen to hear how people are putting this stuff to work - and what impact it’s having. What’s working? What isn’t? What did we leave out that you need? What was unnecessary? What could we have explained better?
